Review:

I have almost no complaints with the Topeak explorer 29er tubular bicycle rack with disc mount. It’s tough, strong and durable. My only advice is to use bolts that go completely through the rack bosses or braze-on’s on your bicycle. Use spring washers and nylock nuts as vibration will cause your standard bolts (even with Loctite) to come loose.

Use nuts and bolts that go right through the rack and bicycle lugs to securely mount the rack.

The terrain on my ‘Barking Mad charity cycle’ across South Africa was so rough it caused one of the original bolts (that did not go completely through the bosses on the bicycle and were not nutted on the opposite end) to snap in half. This caused quite a problem as now my rack and panniers were lopsided and rubbing on my tyre.

I had to cable tie, duct tape and strap the rack back in place as best as possible until I was able to drill out the snapped off bolt which was stuck in the rack boss. So make sure you use quality bolts at all times.

Last Tip: Use two seat post clamps (purchased separately) to secure the mounting bracket arms  between rack and bicycle securely.

Mounting arms

Use two seat post clamps to attach the mounting arms securely to your bicycle.

Verdict: Good value for money. A strong and dependable pannier rack that should last you for some time.

The Topeak explorer 29er tubular bicycle rack is available from Trail and Tar on request.
